Last night at a dinner at the ASC Clubhouse in Hollywood a gentleman whose work I admire very much told me something impossible. Today the conversation seems like a fever dream.
In a very real moment of reverie, Michael Goi, nominated for Judas, brought his parents to the dinner. He said he grew up poor in Chicago, but despite their limited means, his parents never told him not to pursue his dreams because it was too expensive or too impossible. 'This is America, you can do anything,' was their mantra.
When Michael sat down he gave the plaque to his aged father who passed it over to his tiny mother. She pored over it and balanced it in her lap until the evening was over.
